Metal masters ARCH ENEMY are currently locked up in the Sweet Spot Studio facilities in the south of Sweden recording their newest studio album which is being engineered/mixed by Rickard Bengtsson (who already produced 2005's “Doomsday Machine”). After releasing the “Tyrants Of The Rising Sun – Live In Japan” Live DVD/CD (2008) and the re-recordings album “The Root Of All Evil” (2009), the new studio effort marks the long awaited successor of 2007’s acclaimed “Rise Of The Tyrant” album.
Previous to the recording session, UK’s Bonkers Entertainment caught up with ARCH ENEMY at their headline show at the HMV Forum in London UK on November 27th, 2010. This concert was the last stop on a three year long touring cycle for the “Rise Of The Tyrant” and “The Root Of All Evil” albums. In the interview the members of Arch Enemy discussed the upcoming recording of the new studio album, the song writing process and touring plans for 2011. During the conversation, the band also divulged the title of the new album to be “Khaos Legions”. Check out the full clip here:
Coming off a triumphant headlining tour in the UK last month with support by Grand Magus, Chthonic and Malefice, metal masters ARCH ENEMY have begun recording a new studio album.
ARCH ENEMY’s new album will be self-produced by the band and engineered/mixed by Rickard Bengtsson (who already produced 2005's “Doomsday Machine” album). The band has recently entered Sweet Spot Studio in the south of Sweden for the album’s recording process and drummer Daniel Erlandsson, who just finished off tracking his parts, now checks in with the following report:
"After an intense but inspiring stay in the studio, I've just completed recording the drum tracks for the upcoming ARCH ENEMY album! We're working once again with Rickard Bengtsson, who produced "Doomsday Machine", and he quickly dialed in an absolutely pristine drumtone! I've also had the expertise of local drum guru Beppe Wackelin at hand, helping out with tuning and kindly letting me use some of his vintage drums. This time around I've used a Pearl Reference drum kit, while incorporating various snare drums on songs that demanded a slightly different feel.
We had a very inspiring and creative time writing this album, I think this is definitely evident when listening to the new songs. There's tons of variation in the material, ranging all the way from very melodic to extremely heavy. As you can expect there's no shortage of killer riffs and intricate guitar work, the Amott Bros have come up with some very cool yet demanding ideas! This album has some of the fastest songs I've ever recorded, along with a bunch of heavy pounding mid tempo songs. As always, it's difficult to describe music in words - but rest assured - this album will be one heavy fucker!"
And while the band is still busy recording the album, a first bunch of live dates and summer festivals have already been confirmed for 2011 in order to promote the release.
We guess you’ve already seen the first part of ARCH ENEMY’s studio report. The one about Daniel Erlandsson tracking drums at Sweet Spot Studio in the south of Sweden. The band is currently there recording their self-produced new 2011 album “Khaos Legions” with the help of Rickard Bengtsson (who produced 2005's “Doomsday Machine” album). Part 2 of the studio report shows bass-player Sharlee D’Angelo scarifying his bleeding fingers for the sake of KHAOS:
“Ladies and gentlemen, the low end is firmly in place! After a long day of ploughing through an absolutely massive array of bass guitars, different amps and cabs, and various other electronic gadgets the choice finally fell on my white custom shop Ibanez Iceman run through an MXR Bass D.I.+ and an Aguilar Tonehammer into an Aguilar DB751 head and a DB810 cab, complimented by a Marshall VBC 412 cab, hidden behind a veritable forest of expensive microphones on serious looking mic stands.
And the result? Fucking awesome, people! Our engineer Rickard Bengtsson is an audio nerd with a rock'n'roll backbone who does not give up until he finds what he's looking for - and thank fuck for that. Cause the songs on this album really need to be presented in the best way possible. Having laid down all the bass tracks now I just can't wait for everybody to hear the album, and to play all these songs live for you all! But we're not quite there yet, next up are blistering leads from the depths of hell...”

Angela Gossow comments: "Bloodstained Cross - I'd say the title speaks for itself on this one! A remorseless and brutal, yet intricate knuckleduster thrash-attack. Some epic guitar moments in this one too courtesy of the Amott bros. Will be a killer track live... Now turn up the volume and blast this godless anthem all over town!"
Arch Enemy have landed the cover of the new (June) issue of Japan's premiere Metal magazine, "BURRN!". The magazine features 34 (!) pages of exclusive interviews and pictures, a track by track commentary of the new "Khaos Legions" album by the band and a chronicle of Arch Enemy's many tours and shows in Japan over the years. "Khaos Legions" is also the the featured big cross album review and scores high points across the board!
Angela Gossow comments: "Wow - Arch Enemy have kinda taken over this month's issue of Burrn! magazine. It is an absolute honor to get this sort of attention and dedication from Japan's biggest rock and metal magazine! I can not wait to get over there and deliver 'Khaos Legions' live this year to our wonderful and extremely dedicated audience in Japan. Japan has been through an insane apocalyptic nightmare these last few months. It is time to give back love to our fans, the media and our business partners there. Yesterday is dead and gone and we will be united as one! Thank you Japan, Burrn! mag and all it's wonderful readers!"
